Arkansas Gallery

Local by the Texan definition of the term, northern and central Arkansas definitely earns the title of The Natural State. Growing up in Missouri and having spent many family vacations in the Lake of the Ozarks, it wasn't until my late-30s that I realized (or appreciated) the beauty of Arkansas. Even then, my time spent in the state was behind the wheel as I took a more scenic route between my home in north Texas and visiting family in St. Louis.

It wasn't until 2019, when I was invited by a stranger (now friend), Jon Fischer, to join him and several others for a long weekend photographing waterfalls in Arkansas. I don't think I even knew waterfalls existed so close to home at that point!

Although we were too early for spring foliage, there was no questioning the region's beauty, and potential for photography. It was also on that trip that I first learned of Tim Earnst, who's basically an Arkansas legend when it comes to discover and documentation of waterfalls throughout the state (his fantastic Arkansas waterfalls guidebook can be found in my Amazon store's book collection).

I had been anxious to return later in spring to photograph waterfalls with vibrant foliage, but life managed to delay my return until May 2024. It was everything I'd hoped for, and many of the images you'll find in this gallery and available as prints are from that trip. It goes without saying that I'm hoping it won't be another five years until I get back to photography more Arkansas waterfalls.
